📝 Sweet Baker’s Tip

Because the dough is soft before chilling, it can flatten slightly in the fridge. To keep perfectly round cookie slices, slide the wrapped dough logs into a cut paper towel roll before refrigerating. Simple, clever, and so satisfying! 💡💖

Easy Slice & Bake Sugar Cookies

Servings – 18 Prep Time – 15 Minutes Cook Time - 10-13 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 sugar cookie mix, I prefer to use Betty Crocker

  • 1 stick of butter, softened

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 Tablespoons all purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • 1 cup of sprinkles (nonpareils work best), coarse sanding sugar or nuts

Directions:

In a bowl large bowl, mix sugar cookie mix, flour, egg, milk, melted butter and vanilla.

Transfer the dough onto plastic wrap or wax paper. Gently knead it with your hands just until it comes together into a thick, soft dough. Shape it into a log about 10–12 inches long and 2–3 inches wide.

For a decorated edge, spread coarse sugar or sprinkles onto a plate or clean sheet of plastic wrap. Unwrap the dough log and roll it through the coating, lightly pressing so it sticks.

Wrap the log tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2–4 hours, or until very firm. This step helps the cookies keep their shape when slicing. The dough can be refrigerated for several days or frozen for longer storage.

When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, baking spray (I prefer to use Baker's Joy) or a silicone baking mat.

Unwrap the chilled dough and use a sharp knife to slice it into ¼-inch thick rounds. Arrange slices on the prepared baking sheet, leaving 1–2 inches between each cookie.

Bake for 10–13 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look matte rather than shiny. Avoid overbaking... these cookies should stay light and soft.

Allow the cookies to rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then move them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes:

For perfectly round cookies, place the wrapped dough logs inside a halved paper towel roll before chilling. This helps prevent flat spots while the dough firms up. This is completely optional, but always a nice touch!

Try mixing in your own sweet combination of treats, like peppermint pieces, chocolate chips, orange or lemon zest. The possibilities are endless!
